Wild crocus (Crocus ancyrensis) is the earliest species of this genus. Its intense colouring can be seen from far away. It looks great in larger groupings, evoking instant admiration. This extraordinary flower brings people a lot of joy, as soon as it appears at the beginning of spring in our gardens. It fits well into rock gardens, edgings, containers and flowery carpet beddings.

This presented crocus is a low growing bulbous perennial. It grows between 15 and 20 cm tall. Depending on the growing conditions the first blooms may appear at the end of February already, but the full bloom should be expected in March. The blooms look like broader bowls with a tuft of stamina in the middle. A single bulb sprouts up to seven flowers that sit atop relatively long perianth tubes. The petals take on an intense, strong colour. It virtually looks like gold spilled over the still grey and dull garden. Crocus leaves do not possess any special ornamental value, but their presence underscores the beauty of the blooms. Their grass-like shape and vivid, green colour add lightness and fresh character to the blooms.

Planting crocuses should be planned for autumn, a few weeks before the first frosts. Choose a sunny or partially shady site. Provide them wit a permeable, quickly warming up soil with a slightly acidic reaction. Proper humidity is also of utmost importance.

Crocus ancyrensis, sometimes referred to as Ankara crocus, is a variety producing numerous flowers that bloom for a very long time.

The package contains 10 "Ancyrensis" crocus bulbs. Basic plant and growing information is printed on the package label.
