The "Shocking" gladiolus (Gladiolus) is a bicolour beauty in red and pink. Easy cultivation and large, almost gargantuan inflorescences belong to the undisputed advantages of the whole Gladiolus species. The "Shocking" variety is no exception to this rule and will enchant you at first sight. The pale pink flowers are adorned with bright red spots at the lower petals. The buds are arranged alternately on the stiff, erect stems, forming a one-sided ear. The funnel-shaped flowers appear in summer. Thanks to the gradual opening of the inflorescences the gladioli will adorn the garden for 2 to 3 weeks. The variety presented here is slightly lower than the average gladiolus and grows 80 - 100 cm tall. This feature should be considered an advantage, particularly in cultivation in containers and smaller gardens. We recommend to plant the imposing gladioli in groups of at least a dozen plants on the colourful summer flower bed. They will be the seasonal feature in single species groupings on lawns or close to buildings. They perfectly complement borders consisting of lower growing plants. Their role as cut flowers should not be underestimated, either. The stylish and elegant gladioli will adorn your interiors for a long time.

Planting gladioli should be planned for late spring when the soil is warmer and drier. These plants prefer soils enriched with organic fertilizer and well drained - for example mixed with sand. They like sunny sites, yet partial shade will do them no harm. Please remember that gladioli are not frost resistant and need to be excavated before first autumn frosts.
