There are two ways to grow canna lily. You can plant rhizomes into the ground from mid-May to early June or force seedlings in pots. The second method is more common. To try it out, plant rhizomes in March in containers filled with fertile soil. Let them develop in warm and bright rooms. Transplant the hardened seedlings to the permanent site in May. Canna lily grows best at sunny places. They need frequent, regular watering and fertilizing to thrive. Do not forget to remove wilted flowers.

Canna lily does not winter in the ground. Rhizomes need to be dug up and stored in a dark place, cleaned and covered with a layer of sand, sawdust, peat, or newspapers.
