China Aster ‘Princess Red’ is a very attractive annual plant that grows 60 to 80 centimetres in height. Its flowering period starts in the summer and spans to the autumn; it lasts from July to October. As the name suggests, China Aster ‘Princess Red’ produces stunning red flowers with a yellow centre. Predominantly cultivated in flower beds, this charming variety is also used as a cut flower.
Growing: sow the seeds in a seedbed or under cover from March to April. The seeds germinate in 7 to 14 days at 15-18oC. Plant out into flower beds in 30x40cm spacings in May. The plants require medium moist fertile soils; they do not mind being transplanted and need to be protected from aphids. 4 to 5 grams of seeds produce around one thousand plants.
