A birdhouse, sometimes also referred to as nest box, constitutes an intriguing garden ornament. The model presented here is intended for such inhabitants like redstarts, blackbirds, spotted flycatchers, white wagtails, robins and kestrels. It has been made of solid, 2-cm thick wood planks and should immediately attract bird families.
A birdhouse needs to be mounted before the hatching time, hence between end of February and middle of March. Choose a spot where there are at least several older trees growing. Make sure it is mounted in a stable and secure manner. Even stronger wind gusts should not be able to rock it. You should also make sure it is installed in a place that is inaccessible for the household animals, particularly cats. 4 metres constitute a rather safe height and allow to access the birdhouse easily with a ladder. A spot sheltered from heavy rain and not exposed to direct sunlight proves to be best. The birdhouse entrance should be east or south-east facing. We recommend to take the birdhouse down in autumn after the hatching time and clean it thoroughly, so it will attract new inhabitants next year. Remember, though, that attracting birds to your garden will be easier, if you plant some shrubs they can feed on, such as dogwood, sea buckthorn or barberry.
The product offered here should definitely land in your cart, if you like company of birds.
