Camas plants with their blue flowers constitute a unique garden decoration. Tufts of bright green leaves that expand every year wonderfully fill borders, flower beds and lawns. Indian hyacinth, as this plant is also called, grows 40 to 70 centimetres high and produces long clusters of delicate star shaped flowers with yellow anthers. Quamash plants offer great company for coneflowers, speedwells and lavender. Camas's ornamental value is additionally augmented by the fact that it blooms among the latest bulb flowers and therefore faces almost no competition from its relatives. The only minor flaw of this species is its quick wilting and fading of colours after the flowers are cut, hence it is recommended to admire camas plants in the garden.

We recommend to plant camas from September to November at the depth adjusted to the bulbs' size. The site should be sunny or partially shady. A fertile, humous and moist soil proves to be the best for camas cultures. Make sure not to let the soil dry out, as this might negatively influence the quality of produced blooms.  The species presented here does not pose any problems in cultivation, propagates quickly and therefore allows you to achieve large tufts of magnificent flowers. The plant offered here is not fully frost resistant and therefore should be covered with a protective layer. Cover the plantings with conifer twigs or mulch. It can grow on the same site for a few years. The bulbs should be excavated usually after 3 to 4 years and planted again elsewhere. Excavate the large bulbs at the beginning of July after having removed wilted inflorescences. Clean the bulbs, separate the offsets and store them in cool, ventilated room until the planting in autumn.
