Cucumber "Portal F1" (Cucumis sativus) belongs to medium early field cucumber varieties. It is perfectly fitted for early field cultivation. High resistance to common cucumber diseases, particularly cucumber scab and downy mildew, is one of the most important features of this cucumber. This variety produces regularly shaped, proportional, cylindrical fruit that do not overgrow. Ripe fruit are light green with paler stripes. There are thick warts ending with white tips on the peel. These fruit are rich in vitamins A, B and C, and are commonly used for pickles.
Field cucumber seeds may be sown mid-May directly onto the field. You may also prepare seedlings earlier in a heated room. In that case transplant seedlings outside in the second half of May. Cucumber is a thermophilic plant, so it is advised to grow it on sunny sites in warm soil. It should also be rich in nutrients and humus and sufficiently moist. Ripe fruit are harvested from July to September.
