The Franz Kafka dahlia (Dahlia) is a relatively large, 70 to 80 centimetres tall, bushy perennial with a high ornamental value. Its pride and biggest asset are the unique flower heads that are densely packed with round petals rolled into thick "needles". Large, pompon shaped inflorescences of this variety take on a nice, warm, purple-pink colour that is additionally accentuated by the vivid green colour of flat, dentate, feathery palmate leaves. A dense bush crowned with picturesque intriguingly shaped flowers can become the main decoration of a lawn or a large flower bed. We recommend combining the Franz Kafka variety with the crimson-purple Edinburgh ornamental dahlia, the sunny yellow Potgieter, and the snow-white White Aster.

A fertile, moist, yet not too heavy soil guarantees success in growing dahlias. These plants react well to feeding with organic fertilizer while the addition of compost helps to improve water capacity of a light soil.
