Dwarf Columbine is a perennial plant, which, as its name implies, grows fairly small, from 30 to 40 centimetres in height. This is a mix of several Dwarf Columbine varieties that displays wonderful multi-coloured flowers. The flowers come in a vast range of shades, including white, red, blue and pink, and feature an ornamental shape with characteristic "spurs" embracing each flower. Flowering from June to July, this plant is commonly grown in perennial beds, rockeries, as a lawn decoration, or for a cut flower.
Growing: sow the seeds in a seedbed from April to July. The seeds germinate in 25 to 50 days at 15-20oC. The seedlings require pricking out. Plant out into a permanent position in 30x50cm spacings from August to September. The plants thrive in permeable humus soils in sunny or semi-shaded positions. Five grams of seeds produce around one thousand plants.
