The "Flamenco Queen" Hippeastrum, amaryllis delights with its large flowers. Blooms of this variety have white petals that are decorated with scarlet dots. You will not wait too long for the flowers, as they develop several weeks after planting of the bulbs already. The attractive flowers develop on stiff stems that grow 50 to 60 centimetres tall. Hippeastrum is a common interior decoration, whether in pots or cut in vases. You can also place pots with amaryllis plants on a balcony or terrace.

Hippeastrum likes well-lit spots and temperatures around 20 to 23°C. We therefore recommend to place the pots close to windows. Plant the bulbs the way that their upper one third stays above the ground. Fertile and permeable soil proves to be best for this species. It needs to be watered regularly, yet with small amounts of water in order not to drown the bulbs. We also recommend to feed plants with a multicomponent fertilizer intended for flowering plants. Reduce watering after the flowers have wilted. When the leaves dry out, transfer pots to a dry and cool place. The dormancy stage should last two to three months.
