Iceberg lettuce "Beata" (Lactuca sativa) is a Polish head variety that early produces regularly shaped heads that weigh up to 0.5 kg. It is perfectly fitted for cultivation under covers and in the open field. The head consists of large, greyish-green, crunchy, delicious leaves that are densely packed. Compact heads do not produce flowering stalks too early and may be harvested 65 - 70 days after the sow. High resistance to diseases, including resistance to four downy mildew strains, belongs to the biggest advantages of this variety.
Seeds are sown in early spring to a hotbed, or later directly to the ground. Iceberg lettuce "Beata" likes sites with aerated, light, moderately moist and not crusting soils. Due to their firms texture, its leaves taste great in salads and sandwiches. They are low-calorie, but contain plenty of vitamins, minerals and fibre.
