Microgreens - Radish (Raphanus sativus var. niger) - young leaves with exceptional taste are rather unknown and understimated despite their high nutritional value. Young radish leaves contain concentrated valuable nutrients. Microgreens gain on popularity as a plant form with high gustatory and nutritional value. They are young plants that are harvested as soon as the cotyledons and first true leaves have developed. They contain much more vitamins and other substances than sprouts and mature plants. Radish contains sulphur compounds, large amounts of vitamins C, B1, B2 and minerals, including iron and calcium. Young leaves with intense, savoury taste are a great addition to sandwiches, salads, sauces and meat.
Microgrens are grown in containers or boxes that should be placed on a sunny balcony or windowsill. This is an easy way to have fresh, valuable vegetables always at hand. Radish seeds are sown in a thin layer onto the surface of the soil. Sprinkle the culture with water two times a day, as it is very important that it stays moist all the time. These plants grow quickly and the harvest may take place after 2 - 3 weeks, when the first true leaves would have developed.
