The Suzanna montbretia is a bulbous plant that produces delightful, heart-warming, dark yellow flowers. The subtle, yet sturdy montbretia produces flowers on slender stems that shoot from fans of sword-shaped leaves. The long, ear-shaped clusters of flowers of this plant consist of funnel-shaped flowers with fused petals. Their impressive number compensates for their inconspicuous size. Fields of the airy montbretias look stunning on flower beds and lawns. Combining them with plants that bloom at similar time, i.e. phlox, lily, or coneflower guarantees spectacular results. To achieve less showy, delicate effect, match Crocosmia with ornamental grasses that accentuate the romantic image of crocosmia. Neat tufts of this perennial naturalize garden nicely, spreading and appearing in larger numbers every year.
Montbretia cultivation is not troublesome. Plant its bulbs at a sunny and warm place. Exposure to sunlight stimulates plants to generously produce flowers. Montbretia can also tolerate a semi-shaded place. Permeable, fertile, humous soil proves to offer best conditions for this plant, whose tubers should be planted at the turn of April and May. Soak them for a few hours in clean water before planting. Spread tubers every 10 to 15 centimetres and put about 10 centimetres deep in the soil. Watering during drought, fertilizing with compost or a mineral fertilizer, and transplanting every 3 to 4 years, when the tufts become denser, is basically all that this species requires from a grower. The Suzanna variety is fully hardy, but it is worth protecting it with a covering made of straw, dried leaves, or bark.

One package contains 5 bulbs of the Suzanna montbretia, sized 12-centimetres-plus in circumference. Basic plant facts and a growing guide were included in the product information on the packaging label.
