The 'Horizon F1' cucumber is a hybrid variety that stands out with excellent productivity. It belongs to the early cultivars. It is characterized by high resistance to downy mildew and cucumber scab. It develops vividly green fruit that have a lighter ending at the petiole. Their skin is covered with numerous thick medium sized warts. The skin is additionally adorned with lighter streaks whose length reaches one fourth of the cucumber length. The variety that we offer here develops slender fruit that does not tend to overgrow or yellow.

The 'Horizon F1' cucumber variety is recommended for preserves. These nicely shaped cucumbers fit very well into jars. They constitute a great side dish for meat and addition to sandwiches when pickled in vinegar. The larger, yet still shapely cucumbers should be pickled in brine.

Seeds of the presented variety should be sown in the second half of May, after the risk of frost is gone. Growing this vegetable from seedlings that are transferred to the permanent site after several weeks is the recommended growing method. The seeds should not be sown too deep, the sowing depth should not exceed 2 cm. The cucumber seedlings should be planted in rows that are 100 to 120 cm apart. The distances between plants in rows should be between 10 to 20 cm.

Cucumbers belongs to vegetables that require warm, bright and quickly warming sites. The soil that brings the optimal effects needs to be fertile, rich in humus and nutrients and have a high water capacity. The soil should not tend to crust. Cucumbers require watering and fertilization in order to develop as expected. Frequent weeding of the cultures is also recommended. The cultivation in the heavy and wet or sandy soil does not bring good results.

One package contains 5 grams of seeds. The basic plant information, growing instructions and the sow-by date can be found at the back side of the package.

The quality control process

All our seeds must pass a four-stage quality control process.

Stage one begins with a careful selection of the suppliers. Than we proceed with controlling their crops, foreign producers are not excluded from the quality control process. Plants are checked at every stage of their development: when they start to grow, during blooming and when they start bearing fruit (seeds). At this stage the most important thing is to ensure proper spacing of the plants. Thanks to that obtaining the desired morphological characteristics of each particular species or variety, such as colour, height and shape, can be ensured.

Stage two consists of a detailed verification tests in laboratory conditions. With the use of the highest quality equipment by the highly qualified staff, our suppliers perform more than 30 000 quality checks annually. The seeds that do not meet our requirements are subject to technological refining processes, including drying, cleaning, upgrading and testing again.

Stage three starts with sowing seeds in selected control plots. That way we obtain valuable, exact information concerning their germination that must be maintained at an appropriate level. Simultaneously, the varietal identity of each species is checked at this stage.

Stage four takes place in our warehouses and consists of eliminating seeds that have been stored for too long on our shelves and replacing them with new batches. Each package is stamped with a unique batch number and also with the sow-by-date.

All four stages combined allow us to state with confidence that the seeds we deliver comply with the highest standards and have completed all required control stages with flying colours.
