The Red dahlia (Dahlia) is the queen of late summer thanks to its bright, crimson red flowers. Its essential size, attractive appearance and of course the huge flower balls that adorn the emerald green background of dentate feathery leaves make it one of the most valuable garden ornaments. The variety that we offer here grows 80 to 100 centimetres tall, while its tufts reach similar width. It blooms from July until the first weeks of autumn. It does not require any time-consuming care. On the properly selected sunny site and in compost-enriched soil it is virtually self-sufficient.

Growing dahlias begins late in spring. You can plant its rootstock at any sunny site with in a permeable, moist soil that does not dry too quickly. The plants look equally well as stand-alone garden entertainers as in larger groups and compositions with other erect plants such as hollyhock, larkspur, and foxglove. Stems with freshly unfolded flowers retain their fresh appearance for a long time when cut and put into vases.
