Pea "Corne de Belier" (Pisum sativum) is highly productive snow pea, known as "Rams Horn", that produces large, sweet pods with excellent texture. This resistant, prolific plant is intended for cultivation in the open field with supports. It produces numerous, pale green, flat, long pods that slightly resemble rams horns, hence the traditional name. The walls of the edible pods are juicy and tender, free of hard "parchment", while the seeds are regularly sized, firm and sweet. Crops yielded by this variety may be consumed directly, raw and whole, frozen or cooked like the French beans. Pods and seeds of the snow pea "Corne de Belier" contain large amounts of B vitamins, easily assimilable protein, fibre, provitamin A, vitamin C and minerals, kalium, phosphorus and magnesium among others.
Seeds of the "Rams horn" pea is sown in spring into moist, loosened, light, aerated soil. You may expect rapid emergence on a sheltered and sunny site. High quality, rich crops are ready to be harvested in June and July.
