Tomato "Ikarus" (Solanum lycopersicum) is a field, late variety resistant to changing weather conditions that yields rich harvest even grown by less experienced gardeners. It bears numerous, large fruit weighing 150 - 200 g, that are fleshy, vividly red and juicy. Tomatoes of this variety take on round-flattened shape, show slight rippling and are perfectly fitted for preserves, especially purees and concentrated juice. They contain large amonunts of lycopene - an antioxidant that plays a major role in cancer and heart disease prophylaxis - as well as vitamins and minerals, particularly kalium.
Seeds of the "Ikarus" tomato are sown to containers in early spring or directly to the ground in the second half of May. The variety offered here stands out from other tomato varieties with high tolerance to difficult cultivation conditions, especially temperature changes. You may soon expect rich harvest on every sheltered and sunny site, as long as you take care of permeable soil structure and fertilisation. The fruit would be harvest-ready from July until September, depending on the chosen cultivation method and the date of sowing.
