Tomato "Ondraszek" (Lycopersicon esculentum) belongs to early varieties yielding rich crops. Its fruits may be harvested 61 - 70 days after planting the seedlings. It grows slender stems with bushy habit and moderate growth strength. "Ondraszek" stands out with impressive crop structure, as its fruit weigh 100 g on average and reach a diameter of over 6 cm. The berries look great, are round, smooth and do not break nor deform. Their flesh takes on intriguing crimson-red colour that resembles the colouring of watermelon flesh. Tomatoes of this variety are hard, fleshy, have small seed chambers and almost invisible pith, and last, but not least, the taste great. They are intended for direct consumption and for preserves, predominantly juice.
One of the most important features of the "Ondraszek" tomato is that it may be grown from direct sow to the field. End of April / beginning of May would be the right time for this activity. Earlier production of seedlings in a heating interior proves to be a more effective tomato cultivation method, though. Tomatoes are sensitive to low temperatures, hence the seedlings may be transferred outside only after May 15th, when the risk of frosts has passed. Tomatoes planted on sunny and warm sites will bring better crops of more aromatic and sweeter fruit. This plant does not require special soil, yet proper organic and mineral fertilisation is important.
