The beautiful viola petunia, sprinkled with hundreds of charming, funnel-shaped blooms is a valued decoration of tall pots, balcony boxes and hanging baskets. This annual plant grows 40-50 cm tall, while its slender stems attractively spread to the sides and crawl over the containers' edges. Intensely scarlet-red blooms form nice contrast with the green of tiny, hairy, eliptic leaves. The biggest advantage of the presented species lays in abundance and longevity of blooming, that spreads over all summer months, from June until end of September, sometimes even until mid-October.
Seeds of the plants are sown early spring at home or in a heated greenhouse. Developed young plants are transferred to pots or borders after May 15th. Viola petunia will bloom exuberantly in every average garden soil that does not contain too much nitrogen and is permeable. It loves the sun and handles occasional droughts well. Because of the tenderness of its wonderful blooms it requires sheltering from rain and strong wind.
