The Bela Lugosi daylily (Hemerocallis hybrida) develops exceptionally large blooms with circa 15 cm in diameter. Their colouring has already found an army of admirers, as the dark purple colouring of the petals contrasts nicely with the greenish yellow calyx tube. The blossoms appear in summer atop long, stiff stems that emerge from broad tufts of long, spiky leaves. This variety grows up to 65 cm tall. You may plant this variety single or in larger groupings on perennial borders and lawns. This daylily cultivar harmonises splendidly with ornamental grasses.
Daylily rhizomes should be planted in spring or autumn into a fertile, humous soil. The soil should retain humidity. These plants may be grown close to ponds and streams.
