Gladiolus with purple blooms - offered here in 250 piece packs of the XXL-sized bulbs - is a magnificent variety that produces dark purple blooms in clean, cool shade. This cultivar is sought-after by gardeners, as it belongs to garden rarities. This unique beauty opens its buds in July and August. Buds develop one over the other in abundant, long ears. The vividly purple bloom colour makes the flowers a truly unique border decoration. Gladioli may be planted in rows alongside the southern house wall or a fence, but they look great in larger multi-variety groupings, too. The XXL-sized bulbs of the purple gladiolus should be planted 10 cm deep late in spring into permeable, moisture-retaining soil. These plants prefer sunny and wind-sheltered sites. They require staking at the open sites exposed to strong wind gusts. Purple gladiolus will look truly alluring in company of phloxes, tall lilies, hollyhocks and pastel-coloured gladioli, such as the "London", "Pink Lady", "Sapporo" and "Vera Lynn" varieties.
