The Manitoba Morning martagon lily is a bulbous plant that is worth having in a garden. Tall stems that end with clusters of spotted flowers are an unusual sight. A single lily that is a few years old can produce up to thirty flowers with bent petals on one stem. Magnificent flower crowns of that botanical variety are additionally adorned with large anthers that protrude from flower centres. Dark pink flowers combined with the unique colouring of the spots guarantee a stunning visual experience. Flowers of the martagon lily provide flower beds and quiet garden spots with a hint of exotic flair. Lily of that species is a sturdy and long-lived plant despite its unforgettable beauty.

The Manitoba Morning Turk's cap lily, as this plant is also called, belongs to plants that are easy-to-grow. You only need to remember that those lilies need at least one season to get accustomed to the garden conditions. Only after that time this lily will reach its decorative potential. Martagon lily needs a permeable soil that is rich in humus and has a slightly acidic reaction. It requires a sunny site or one in partial shade, so the flowers and leaves remain exposed to sunlight and the lower part of the stem is hidden in the shade. Plant lily bulbs in autumn, in September and October, and even until end of November when the weather is favourable. Recommended planting depth is 10 to 12 centimetres. This lily does not like transplanting and thrives left in the same spot for years. Martagon lilies are fully resistant to frost. The maintenance is limited to topping wilted flower clusters, feeding with multi-component fertilizers, and watering during periods of drought.
