The 'Helmar' tulip personifies everything that you would like to see after a long and grey winter. This variety explodes with cheerful colours: canary yellow and scarlet flames on every petal. If you intend to add colour to your garden, this tulip hits the nail on the head. The eye-catching 'Helmar' blooms for several weeks and can be considered a winner of the bright colour category. The tall strong stems combined with the excellent quality of the flowers give this variety an advantage over other flowers. It cannot be missed. It puts on quite a show when planted in larger groupings or broad stripes of land. They will thrive in planters too. The cheerfully coloured and long lived tulip is a wonderful cut flower that will rejuvenate your home interior. The 'Helmar' tulip harmonizes with other early single tulips, such as 'Yokohama' or 'Ronaldo'.

Tulips do not have any special cultivation requirements. This plant does not absorb much of your attention. You only need to learn their site requirements in order to enjoy magnificent flowers. Tulips grow best in medium heavy to light soils. Loam-sandy soil has to be permeable, rich in nutrients and organic matter. We do not recommend to plant tulip bulbs on waterlogging, acidic, heavy, overdried soil. Tulips prefer sunny situations, but several hours per day in the shade will not do them any harm. The site for planting tulip bulbs should be prepared earlier. Verticulate and weed the soil, as well as remove all the larger stones from it. The admixture of ground compost proves to bring the plant substantial benefits and gives them a head start. You may also add a little sand to the soil in order to make it lighter. You do not have to excavate tulip bulbs every year, but doing so every 3 to 4 years strengthens plants. It also allows you to propagate tulips with offsets. The plants tolerate European winters and can remain on the same site for several years.

Tulip bulbs need to be planted in autumn. September and October are considered the best months for executing this task. The optimal planting depth equals twice the height of a bulb. The spacings depend on the visual effect that you want to achieve. Average spacings would be 15-20 x 15-20 cm
