The Vestal wood anemone is a charming herbaceous perennial that produces myriads of white flowers. Each of them consists of six to seven petals that surround a fluffy, dome-shaped centre full of thin anthers. Double flowers of the Vestal anemone appear reliably each spring. They are way sturdier than varieties with single flowers and rise on short stalks over deeply dentate, bright green leaves. This abundantly flowering perennial propagates through underground rhizomes, which allows it to quickly create a marvellous, dense bedding.
The fifteen to twenty centimetres tall anemones feel great in humous, moderately moist, permeable, slightly acidic soil. Allow the site to dry slightly in summer, when the plant enters dormancy. Grow anemones in groups of up to two dozen plants for the best visual experience. Plant anemone rhizomes from March to May, fifteen to twenty-five centimetres apart. Anemones belong to completely hardy plants and do not require winter covering. This plant is easy to grow and do not require any special care. Resistance to pests and diseases also belongs to the advantages of the presented species.
Anemone that can quickly naturalize is simply perfect for growing under trees and larger shrubs. It thrives in a rock garden, and any area kept in a natural or woodland style. This plant perfectly fits onto borders and path edges. Anemone can be planted on empty spots that it would turn into a flowery glade in spring.
Wood anemone is poisonous. Always wear gloves when handling the plant.
