The Yellow cactus dahlia (Dahlia) is a variety that is simply perfect for growing in a centre of a small flower bed, in a large planter or bowl. This plant takes on a tuft habit that it owes to erect, relatively stiff, densely leaved shoots. Double canary yellow flowers unfold over the compound feathery leaves in summer. They owe their exceptional ornamental value to their characteristic build: the centre of each flower consists of a cluster of packed disc florets that are surrounded by the radially spreading whorls of longer petals that are rolled up like needles. One plant produces from a few to over a dozen double semi-spherical flowers.

Due to the long and abundant flowering, we recommend providing the yellow cactus dahlia with a sunny or only partially shady site with a fertile, warm, aerated soil that has a high water capacity. Plant dahlia rootstock in the second half of spring to enjoy the first flowers on the flower bed or cut them for bouquets in July already. These charming, sunny yellow flower heads stay fresh until first autumn frost. That is when the time comes to excavate the rootstock and transfer it to a basement that is protected from frost.
