The Brisbane tulip is a plant that stands out in every possible way. Its sumptuous, slightly fragrant flowers combine the splendor of double tulips with the unique appearance of fringed varieties. This plant grows up to forty centimetres (sixteen inches) tall and virtually radiates amazing shine. Flowers that open profusely in April and May com in expressive, warm colours. Their beauty is enhanced by hundreds of thin "needles" densely lined on the edges of petals. Red and orange Brisbane tulips look best in the foreground of the composition or in a separate group. Flowers of this captivating variety reach a diameter of fifteen centimetres (six inches) and remain attractive for ten to twelve days after they have fully opened.
