Daylilies are quickly growing, sturdy perennials that develop large, fragrant blooms. Growing these plants belongs to the easiest gardening tasks. Resistance to external factors, including weather, belongs to the most important advantages of this species. The Autumn Red variety presented here may grow over 50 cm tall and its six petal flowers stand out with dark red colour, visible stripes and yellow perianth. This plant will thrive on a warm site in the full sun. It does not have any special requirements in regard to the soil that might surprise a potential grower. One should, however, make sure that the ground is rich in water and at least moderately fertile. Daylilies are perfectly suited for planting both in spring and autumn. Please keep at least 20-30 cm distances between the seedlings due to the strong growth of the plants and tendency to spreading. You will not have to worry about temperatures below freezing point, as daylilies handle such conditions very well. Snails and slugs may pose a threat, especially for the young plants, because they like to feed on the first leaves. Choosing a place for daylily cultivation will not be a problem. These plants adapt well to and tolerate various conditions and will develop well in gardens, close to ponds, in larger groupings on lawns and in containers.
