The ornamental Allium Nevskianum, sometimes referred to as Turkistan onion is an intriguing and unique plant for your garden. This still relatively unknown, yet exceptionally beautiful bulbous flowering plant originates from the Far East where it grows in mountains and highlands in the wild. It is related to the Karatau garlic (Allium karataviense).

This low growing plant develops very broad, thick leaves that are covered with a blue-grey coating. A spectacular round clusters of flowers that measures up to 15 centimetres in diameter appears over the foliage between April and June. This inflorescence consists of numerous star-shaped flowers and resembles a giant dandelion ball. Deep pink colour that borders on purple contrasts with the greyish leaves, creating a wonderful visual effect.

Allium Nevskianum is considered as tremendous flower bed and lawn decoration. It looks wonderful in rock gardens that resemble its natural habitat. It will also thrive in planters, boxes and ornamental pots. It looks best in larger groupings. The bulbs of this species should be planted from August until the end of the year.

The plant offered here is exceptionally easy to grow and undemanding. This species is also characterized by high resistance to diseases and infestation with pests. It does not need any winter protection. It prefers sunny, warm sites and permeable, light and fertile soils. Higher calcium content suits it best. An appropriate drainage layer needs to be applied in heavier soils before planting.

The bulbs of the ornamental garlic and leek plants are often actually cloves. The fact, that they look like split in halves or smaller parts. A beautiful plant will grow from every flat small bulb.
