Oriental poppy Harvest Moon is a 60 centimetres tall perennial, growing from underground rhizomes. Large, juicy orange flowers of this poppy have exceptional decorative value. Poppies make themselves visible already in early spring with rosettes of feathery, pubescent leaves. From May on, straight, stiff stems with large, spherical buds shoot high from dense green tufts. Within a few days, they transform into broad flowers consisting of thin, subtly shimmering petals. A star-shaped pistil surrounded by hundreds of fluffy stamens forms the centre of each flower. Harvest Moon Oriental poppy is a variety that thrives in larger groups on a flowerbed, border, or lawn edge. Poppies look beautiful in every garden, but they deserve special attention in rural, naturalistic, oriental, and modern arrangements.

Poppies are easy to grow. They fare best in well-drained soil, at a dry and sunny position. Make sure to loosen compact, heavy soil with an admixture of sand and apply a drainage layer to avoid water stagnation, which is deadly for these plants. Poppies do not require time-consuming care. Trim them after the flowering period, fertilize moderately if necessary, and transplant and split overgrown plants. Poppies go dormant after flowering. That is why we recommend planting them with species that bloom in the second half of summer, and can cover empty spots left by the already wilted popies.
