Lavender is a very popular ornamental plant. Dense, regularly shaped tufts that grow 30 to 50 centimetres in height have become a real hit of recent years. Lavender grows both in gardens and pots. They captivate onlookers with silvery, fine foliage, purple flowers, and a distinct scent. In addition to their undeniable decorative qualities, lavender plants are melliferous and medicinal. Their clusters of flowers appear on bare, thin stems, that tower above dense foliage. Flower beds, rock gardens, borders, low hedges all belong to places where you can plant lavender. When planted in pots and planters, it wonderful decorates a balcony, terrace, home entrance, or stairs. Dried flowers can be put in small canvas bags to add a nice fragrance to cupboards and drawers, as well as for flavouring dishes in the kitchen. Lavender is widely used in the production of cosmetics and natural medicine. It has a calming, digestive, and disinfecting effect.

As a Mediterranean species, lavender feels great in sunny and secluded places. Vigorous growth is guaranteed by a sandy, well-drained, and calciferous soil. Lavender is drought-resistant and does not tolerate flooding. This hardy perennial requires covering only during frosty winters. After flowering, in September, it is good to trim the shrubs to keep their nice shape. Mulching with light gravel, that reflects sunlight, helps to keep the plants from fungal diseases, as it helps the leaves dry faster.
