The refractometer that indicates sugar and alcohol content in wine must or beer wort will help you maintain proper level of sugar and alcohol in your home-made beverages.
This refractometer provides the sugar level in Balling scale or grams per litre and the alcohol content as percentage.

This device consists of two parts. The first one is a floater, also called the aerometer, with three measuring scales: the Balling scale for sugar content measurement, gram per litre sugar content scale and the alcohol percentage scale. The second part of this device is a plastic test tube that is absolutely necessary for proper execution of the measurement.

This device is calibrated at 20°C. One grade at the Balling scale equals 10 g sugar in 1 litre of liquid.

Instructions of use for measuring sugar content in wine must:

Pour the must into the test tube filling it in two thirds. The must needs to be free of solid compounds and air bubbles. The aerometer should be able to float freely on the surface of the liquid, without touching the walls nor the bottom of the test tube. If the result reads 20 Blg, you would know that the sugar content amounts to 200 g of sugar per 1 litre and results in 9.6% alcohol content.

You should pay attention and observe that the wine does not exceed 22-25 Blg at the beginning of the fermentation process. If you intend to make sweet wine, add sugar gradually every 5 to 6 days during fermentation or sweeten it only afterwards.

Instructions of use for measuring sugar content in beer wort:

Act in the same manner as in measuring sugar level in wine must. It is recommended that the sugar concentration at the beginning amounts to 8-10 Blg (amber colour on the indicator scale) and drop to 0-2 Blg at the end (indicated with green mark).
