Straight glass airlock with 8.5 mm in diameter. The material used in manufacturing of this airlock is certified by the Polish Hygiene Institute (PZH), thus permitted for food contact. This product fits into openings in rubber carboy corks. Thanks to that feature the contents of the first ferment are protected from oxygen, yet the carbon dioxide, a by-product of the fermentation, is continuously being released.

Due to the fact that transparent glass had been used for production of this airlock you are able to observe the changes that occur during fermentation. Do remember to fill up water in the airlock chambers that evaporates steadily. This is absolutely crucial for the proper course of the process. Negligence in that regard may lead to oxidation of the forming ethanol to the unwanted acetic acid.

You may substitute water with another oily liquid that does not evaporate that quickly.
