The 'Albin' celeriac (Apium graveolens), also known as the celery root whose seeds are offered here in 2500 piece packages, is a productive medium early variety intended for autumn harvest, that is definitely worth your attention. Its large, round stems (hypocotyls) that are often referred to as roots are covered with sturdy skin that is resistant to mechanical damage and does not break. The flesh takes on an appetizing white colour without any discolorations. 'Albin' celeriac stems can be used in the kitchen in a variety of ways and can be stored long-term. The compact and firm flesh without any hollow spots does not darken after cooking and remains crunchy. It stands out with a distinct taste and a nice strong aroma. Leaves of this celery root variety can also be eaten. Their petioles are thick fleshy and juicy, while the blades smooth and large. This dark green and aromatic foliage is perfect for soup greens. Celery root is a vegetable that is rich in minerals - phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, zinc and iron. The leaves contain plenty of vitamins C, E and beta carotene. The flesh of the stems also contains vitamins, essential oils that are valuable for health and dietary fibre. The low calorie and digestive celery can be eaten after short cooking in soups, stews, sauces and salads. The fresh leaves constitute a great addition to fruit and vegetable smoothies and purees. The regular consumption of celery improves body resistance, replenish nutrient deficiencies, helps maintain the proper body weight, lowers blood pressure and regulates the cholesterol level.

Seeds of the 'Albin' celeriac should be sown into multipots or nursery pots early in spring. You can grow the seedlings at home or on a hotbed. The hardened seedlings can be transplanted to the bed in mid-spring the earliest. 'Albin' does not need to be covered with fleece as a cultivar that is resistant to vernalization, what means that it does not shoot flowering stalks after being exposed to colder weather. The roots that are intended for winter storage are harvested about 140 days after the sow. In order to achieve high yield of premium quality roots we recommend to grow celeriac on sunny sites in moist, fertile, humous, permeable soil.

The 'Albin' celeriac professional seeds ensure even and quick emergence. The high germination energy translates into higher vigour of the seedlings. That way you will be able to grow large, regularly shaped and sized stems that consist of first quality flesh.

Each package contains 2500 seeds of the 'Albin' celeriac. The growing instructions and the sow-by date can be found in the packaging information.

The quality control process

All our seeds must pass a four-stage quality control process.

Stage one begins with a careful selection of the suppliers. Than we proceed with controlling their crops, foreign producers are not excluded from the quality control process. Plants are checked at every stage of their development: when they start to grow, during blooming and when they start bearing fruit (seeds). At this stage the most important thing is to ensure proper spacing of the plants. Thanks to that obtaining the desired morphological characteristics of each particular species or variety, such as colour, height and shape, can be ensured.

Stage two consists of a detailed verification tests in laboratory conditions. With the use of the highest quality equipment by the highly qualified staff, our suppliers perform more than 30 000 quality checks annually. The seeds that do not meet our requirements are subject to technological refining processes, including drying, cleaning, upgrading and testing again.

Stage three starts with sowing seeds in selected control plots. That way we obtain valuable, exact information concerning their germination that must be maintained at an appropriate level. Simultaneously, the varietal identity of each species is checked at this stage.

Stage four takes place in our warehouses and consists of eliminating seeds that have been stored for too long on our shelves and replacing them with new batches. Each package is stamped with a unique batch number and also with the sow-by-date.

All four stages combined allow us to state with confidence that the seeds we deliver comply with the highest standards and have completed all required control stages with flying colours.
