Hosta, also known as plantain lily, is a wonderful plant that combines high ornamental value, easy growing, and tolerance of various lighting conditions. It grows as a broad tuft that consists of a rosette of leaves that sit on petioles. Hosta varieties differ in vigour, colour, and height. You can find plants with ovate, elongated, almost round, or heart-shaped leaves among them. Green in all shades possible, from juicy bright green, through silvery green, to lime green, is the dominating colour. Irregular edgings, stripes, and spots are a common colour variation. Naked stalks with funnel-shaped flowers shoot from leaf rosettes in summer. These blooms are usually white or pastel purple. Presented perennial is commonly grown in gardens due to an easy, undemanding cultivation. You can use this species in many compositions. Hostas do not require any special care and are resistant to low temperatures.

A perfect site for hosta plants should be fertile, moist, and slightly acidic. We recommend feeding hosta with a dose of multicomponent fertilizer in spring and summer. We also suggest covering the ground with compost mulch to reduce water loss.
Hosta looks best in groups. They form wonderful covering under trees and around shrubs. They are perfect for edgings, streams banks, ponds, rock gardens, and all pot and planter arrangements. Among the wide variety of hosta plants, you can find varieties that grow better on sunny sites (bicolour) and those who prefer partial shade and shade (uniform green colour).
