Wild strawberry "Mignonette" (Fragaria) is a living proof that you can grow prolific subshrubs bearing dozens of sweet, delicious fruit, from seeds on your own. This easily cultivated, productive and undemanding plant grows and regularly bears fruit out on the field or in containers. It produces quite large, regularly shaped and sized, roundly conical fruit with a saturated, carmine colouring. Its berries are rich in sugars, very aromatic and perfect for desserts, as addition to cakes, puddings or ice cream.
Seeds of the "Mignonette" woodland strawberry are sown late in the spring and in summer onto the field or into containers filled with fertile, permeable seedling soil. Regular sprinkling of the soil with water and protection from overdrying are the keys to successful germination. This plant needs a sunny or partially shady site with well drained, light and humous soil in order to yield rich crops. Since the wild strawberries grow on forest borders in the wild, they can be used as turfing plant around trees and bushes.
