The Pot marigold, celebrated for its vibrantly coloured flowers, is not only a captivating addition to any garden but also a valued plant in herbal medicine. Its striking yellow and orange blossoms are a pleasure to behold and are often used to prepare infusions and extracts. Reaching a height of 35 to 70 cm, this plant is ideal for borders and cutting. Its ease of cultivation and high resistance to adverse weather conditions make the Pot marigold an excellent choice for those looking to enhance their garden naturally. The premium quality seeds available at Garden Seeds Market ensure outstanding results, allowing you to enjoy its charm throughout the summer.

Sowing

Pot marigold seeds are best sown directly into the ground. Moist soil with moderate permeability provides perfect conditions for germination. It’s worth noting that Pot marigolds require no special care at the sowing stage, making them an ideal choice for novice gardeners.

Sowing Depth

Seeds should be placed at a depth of approximately 1 cm. Sowing too shallow may lead to seed drying, while sowing too deep may hinder germination. Maintaining the correct depth ensures optimal growth conditions for the plant.

Direct Sowing Period

When should you sow Pot marigold seeds directly into the ground? The best time is in the spring, from April to May, when the soil is suitably warmed to promote rapid plant growth. It’s advisable to watch the weather forecasts to avoid sowing before frost.

Plant Spacing

The optimal spacing for Pot marigolds is 20x20-25 cm. This distance provides the plants with adequate space for development, while allowing for air circulation, which minimises the risk of fungal diseases.

Companion Planting

Pot marigolds pair beautifully with other ornamental plants, such as roses or lavender. Their intense colours contrast wonderfully with the greenery of leaves, creating stunning compositions in flowerbeds. They also act as a deterrent to certain pests, making them a valuable neighbour in the garden.

Site Conditions

Pot marigolds thrive in sunny positions but also tolerate light shade. The soil should be fertile and well-drained, although this plant can adapt to less favourable conditions. Regular watering during dry spells will ensure abundant flowering throughout the season. Using compost as a natural fertiliser is also a good idea.

Growing Tips

Pot marigold is an undemanding plant that thrives in various conditions. Regular deadheading encourages the plant to produce new buds. Remember to water moderately, especially on hot days. Pot marigold is resistant to most diseases, making it one of the easiest plants to grow.

Plant Height

The plant grows to a height of 35 to 70 cm, making it an excellent choice for borders. It is tall enough to be an impressive feature in the garden, yet not so tall as to overshadow other plants.

Flowering Period

Pot marigold blooms from June to October, providing a long-lasting decorative effect. The flowers appear in large quantities, and their vibrant colours enliven any garden space.

Usage

Beyond its decorative appeal, Pot marigold is valued in herbal medicine. Its flowers are used to prepare infusions that can aid in treating skin inflammation. The plant is also popular in cosmetics, where it finds use in creams and ointments.

Resistance to Diseases

Pot marigold is characterised by its high resistance to most garden diseases. This makes it easy to grow and eliminates the need for chemical plant protection products. Its natural resilience makes it an ideal choice for those seeking low-maintenance plants.

Good to Know

Pot marigold not only adorns the garden but also attracts bees, which is beneficial for the ecosystem. Its medicinal properties have been utilised for centuries, and marigold infusions can be used as a natural remedy to soothe skin irritations. This plant is also easy to propagate from seeds, allowing for quick multiplication in the garden.

The quality control process

All our seeds must pass a four-stage quality control process.

Stage one begins with a careful selection of the suppliers. Than we proceed with controlling their crops, foreign producers are not excluded from the quality control process. Plants are checked at every stage of their development: when they start to grow, during blooming and when they start bearing fruit (seeds). At this stage the most important thing is to ensure proper spacing of the plants. Thanks to that obtaining the desired morphological characteristics of each particular species or variety, such as colour, height and shape, can be ensured.

Stage two consists of a detailed verification tests in laboratory conditions. With the use of the highest quality equipment by the highly qualified staff, our suppliers perform more than 30 000 quality checks annually. The seeds that do not meet our requirements are subject to technological refining processes, including drying, cleaning, upgrading and testing again.

Stage three starts with sowing seeds in selected control plots. That way we obtain valuable, exact information concerning their germination that must be maintained at an appropriate level. Simultaneously, the varietal identity of each species is checked at this stage.

Stage four takes place in our warehouses and consists of eliminating seeds that have been stored for too long on our shelves and replacing them with new batches. Each package is stamped with a unique batch number and also with the sow-by-date.

All four stages combined allow us to state with confidence that the seeds we deliver comply with the highest standards and have completed all required control stages with flying colours.
