Ivy Geranium - Speedy mixed - Pelargonium peltatum - Vibrant colour cascade, rapid dense growth - Fresh Seeds

Speedy mixed ivy geranium is a brilliant choice for anyone who wants a flowing cascade of colour with a neat, tidy look. Its long, trailing stems can reach up to 40 cm, draping naturally over the edges of pots and baskets for a soft, elegant effect. From late spring through to autumn, it blooms generously, forming full clusters of flowers in a lively mix of rich, saturated shades. Although it is a perennial by nature, it is most often grown as an annual. Thanks to its rapid growth and dense branching, Speedy mixed quickly creates impressive displays that stay vibrant and fresh for months. This variety is commonly known as ivy geranium and comes from Pelargonium peltatum.

Sowing depth

Sow the seeds at a depth of around 0.5 cm. This helps maintain steady moisture in the compost and gives young seedlings stable conditions as they begin to grow.

Sowing time under cover

The best time to sow is January or February. Early sowing gives the young plants time to develop well before spring, making them stronger and ready for planting out later on. For the best results, keep the temperature at about 20°C and provide good light.

Planting time

Plant out the young plants in May, once the risk of frost has passed and the days are warmer and longer. In these conditions, the plants settle in quickly and start to grow strongly, forming healthy, dense growth.

Spacing

Leave about 20 x 30 cm between plants. This spacing gives each plant enough room to branch out and form lush, trailing growth without overcrowding, which can reduce flowering.

Flowering time

Speedy mixed ivy geranium flowers continuously from May to October, offering a long season of abundant blooms and colourful impact throughout the summer months.

Growing

This variety thrives in containers, window boxes, and hanging baskets, where its trailing shoots can grow freely and fall naturally. Choose a sunny or lightly shaded position, as more light usually means more flowers and stronger colour. Use fertile, free draining compost and keep it lightly moist with regular but moderate watering. Feed every 2 weeks with a fertiliser for flowering plants to support stronger colour and a longer flowering season.
