The light pink "Flamingo" cosmos (Cosmos) is a true novelty on the European gardening market. It is closely related to the well known garden cosmos (a.k.a. Mexican aster) and definitely worth your attention. The "Flamingo" cosmos is worth considering due to its charming light pink flowers with yellow centres. The 60 - 75 cm tall plant develops a loose habit sprinkled with sweet blooms consisting of velvety petals. The tender stems are covered with lanceolate, pale green leaves. Growth form of this plant resembles a loose tuft. The erect flowering stalks end with single flowers. The flowering period starts in July and lasts until autumn. Cosmoses prove to be reliable border plants, although they would fare well in containers, too. The fully developed, open flowers attract swarms of butterflies and other pollinating insects with their sweet alluring fragrance. They also constitute great material for fresh, adorable bouquets.
The "Flamingo" cosmos variety prefers wind-sheltered and sunny sites. A medium fertile and moderately moist soil would offer sufficiently good conditions for this species that likes light and loose soils. This plant may be cultivated as a perennial in regions of milder climate, e.g. the Mediterranean. It unfortunately does not winter in the ground in Central European climate and its tubers need to be excavated. Plant them again mid-May after the risk of frost has passed.
One package contains 10 first choice tuber. Basic growing instructions were printed on the package label.
