Meadow fescue is considered one of the most valuable species of forage grasses. It is very often grown as a useful plant. It is a perennial grass with a loose habit, moderately aggressive towards other species, it does not displace them from the sward. It grows back quickly and well. It prefers rather fertile, moderately moist soils, and does not tolerate shade well. The pH of the soil should be neutral or slightly alkaline. This grass variety is not very tolerant to low temperature and drought. It provides high-quality harvest in a relatively short time. It mingles very well with various grass and butterfly-grass mixtures. Meadow fescue has a high forage value. The leaf blades of this grass are a good source of sugars, proteins and minerals, of which it is particularly rich in calcium. It is very digestible, green forage and silage containing meadow fescue are eagerly eaten by cattle. It is not recommended to mow during the flowering due to the possibility of accumulation of hardly digestible substances. Meadow fescue is used for the renovation of grasslands by underseeding.
