The 'Big Smile' (Helianthus annuus) ornamental sunflower is a magnificent dwarf variety that develops huge flowers. Even though it does not grow taller than 40 cm, its flower heads can reach 30 cm in diameter. The round centre filled with tightly packed brown-yellow disc flowers is surrounded by a dense whorl of long, juicy yellow ray flowers. The bright sunny colour of the petals harmonizes with the subdued green colouring of the large, oval leaves that grow along the whole stem. The densely leaved, erect ornamental sunflowers are full of natural charm and therefore constitute the most beautiful decoration of rustic and idyllic gardens.
Seeds of the 'Big Smile' ornamental sunflower should be sown late in spring into pots or directly onto beds. The plants grown in containers prefer sunny sites that are sheltered from strong wind. These grown in groupings in garden withstand the wind gusts, are not prone to injuries and exceptionally vigorous. The durable sunflowers are a permanent decoration of borders, flower beds and lawns, as you can adorn them from July to October. The cultivar presented here in our store can be grown for cut flowers. Dwarf sunflowers look great in company of compact annual and biennial plants, such as marigolds, dwarf asters, begonias, cock's combs, gazanias, cosmoses, sage and flossflowers.
One package contains 0.5 grams of seeds of the 'Big Smile' ornamental sunflower. The sow-before date and the growing tips were printed on the back side of the package.
