Plains coreopsis, also called garden or golden tickseed (Coreopsis tinctoria nana) is a popular annual plant that is well known for its reliable blooming that lasts from June until October. The variety presented here grows up to 30 cm tall. It produces flat, large, single, golden-brown flowers with brown centres that sit atop long stalks. Plains coreopsis looks great at the front of flower beds and as gap-filler on perennial borders thanks to its contrasting colouring and nice habit (branched, naked stalks add lightness to the plants). We recommend to combine it with taller snapdragon cultivars, dahlia-flowered zinnias, orange and yellow marigolds, as well as the tiny wax begonias. This plant acts as great cut flower, too.
Seeds of the variety that is available here in our store should be sown in spring - onto a hotbed or directly to the field. The tall plains coreopsis is rather undemanding in regard to the soil, although it will grow best in light and moderately fertile soil. The site needs to be sunny, as access to sunlight will guarantee abundant blooming and deep, intense colouring of the flowers. One of the advantages of this plant lies in the fact that is not attacked by diseases nor pests.
