Fodder turnip (Brassica rapa L. var. rapa) is a vegetable that humankind has used for centuries. Turnip roots are now mostly used as fodder for farm animals. Turnip has lactiferous qualities and animals devour its roots with gusto. Fodder turnip does not contain too much nutrients - it contains some proteins, vitamins, and minerals. Hardiness and quick volume growth even in autumn belong to the most important assets of this plant. Average vegetation period of the Polybra turnip is 60 to 80 days, hence it is seldom grown as main crop, the more often as after crop and stubble catch crop.
Turnip belongs to biennial plants, but you can also grow it as annual after the early spring sow. It prefers sandy-loam, fertile, and thoroughly weeded soil. Presented plant is sensitive to water shortages and requires watering during drought. You can plant it after other cabbage plants in the crop rotation, but the legumes and root vegetables are the best forecrop for the presented plant. Sow from July to August 2 to 3 centimetres deep to harvest large roots in October.
Seeding rate for the presented turnip is 2 to 4 kg/ha.
Each package contains 500 grams of seeds of the Polybra fodder turnip.
