Purple loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria) is a perennial plant ideal for planting in vicinity of water basins or in water-retaining soil. Its beautiful, scarlet-pink inflorescences please our eyes all summer long. Spiked loosestrife, as it is also called, looks great planted in larger groupings, but it can also be combined with dotted loosestrife. This plant stands out with its tall habit, it reaches heights between 80 and 210 cm.

Seeds are sown late in spring into a seed bed and the young seedlings are transplanted into the field end of summer / beginning of autumn. We plant them in 40 x 50 cm spacings. Purple loosestrife thrives on moist sites, hence the soil in which we are going to grow it, needs to have high water capacity and be permeable and fertile. The plant grows equally well on sunny and partially shady sites.
