The 'Sweet Flag' tulip is a Triumph variety that produces pastel, hued flowers. Its petals are tricolour: greenish at bases, creamy-white in the middle and light purple at the top. These subtle colour shades look as if they were made with watercolours. Single, charming flowers of the 'Sweet Flag' tulip constitute a subduing component in arrangements that are composed of more vivid colours. A larger grouping of the violet, subtle tulips planted in the centre of a lawn or at the front of a flower bed looks charming and elegant at the same time. The classic shape of the flowers of this variety allow to use them in various tulip arrangements.

The bulbs of the 'Sweet Flag' tulip should be planted in 15 x 15 centimetre spacings in a permeable, moderately moist and humous soil. Take into account when planting tulips that spring bulbous perennials love sunny situations, but tolerate partial shade - e.g. dispersed light under deciduous trees. The variety offered here in our store blooms at the end of April and the beginning of May, together with fritillaries, grape hyacinths, daffodils, striped squills, hyacinths and the majority of tulip cultivars. Its pastel, purple flowers look great in company of other Triumph tulips, such as the crimson-creamy-white 'Atlantis', the pink-white 'Beau Monde' and the yellow-red 'Suncatcher'. We recommend the dark purple and black tulips, e.g. 'Cuban Night', 'Fringed Black' and 'Negrete Crown' for contrasting, colour-blocking compositions.
