The "Apollo" wintering butterhead is an excellent choice for vegetable beds. It has been specially bred for cultivation in unheated tunnels and field cultures in early spring. The variety presented here develops round, compact, tightly closed heads. The top layer consists of juicy green leaves. The heads are, however, yellow-green or yellow in cross-section. The main advantage of this cultivar lies in its resistance to downy mildew and browning of the leaf tips, a phenomenon known as the so-called tipburn.

This type of lettuce can be sown late in the summer and later in autumn, too. Heads are harvested in early spring. Wintering lettuces are not recommended for late spring sowing due to their quick development of flowering stalks. The site for wintering lettuce cultivation should be sheltered from winds. This vegetable needs a permeable, cultivated soil with a neutral reaction. We recommend to water it regularly. Vegetation period of the "Apollo" variety lasts 67-75 days.

Lettuce is a very popular leaf vegetable. It is a good source of many vitamins and nutrients, especially iron and calcium. Its properties help you improve the functioning of the digestive system and detoxify the body. Its leaves are extremely low-calorie, hence are perfect for people on a diet.
