The La bella Campagnola alfalfa belongs to highly valuable fodder plants, not only because of its resistance to drought and all-purpose usage. It constitutes an excellent source of proteins for farm animals and improves soil structure. Alfalfa is a perennial plant that you can include in your crop rotation for three to five years. Quick regrowing after cutting allows you to harvest four to five cuts each year. Alfalfa gives you an alternative to red clover that does not grow on dry and sunny situations, where there is not enough moisture. The La bella campagnola alfalfa stands out with high productivity. Fodder made of alfalfa contains plenty of proteins and other important nutrients. Note that it also improves quality of the soil, its fertility and humous exchange. As many other legumes, alfalfa lives in symbiosis with the nitrogen accumulating Rhizobium bacteria. Alfalfa is considered a soil rejuvenating plant that is crucial for a good crop rotation.
You can grow alfalfa from pure sow or undersown with a protective plant. Sow in rows 12 to 15 centimetres apart. Do not put the seeds too deep into the soil. We recommend seeding no deeper than 1 to 2 centimetres. Spring, from April to mid-May is considered the ideal time to sow alfalfa, you can also sow in summer (without the protective plant), in June and July. In the first year of cultivation, cut alfalfa at the beginning of the flowering period, in the following years at the early bud producing stage. After long-term use, alfalfa cultures might show some empty spots that we recommend filling with grasses or clover to prevent it from weeds.
Each package contains 0.5 kg of seeds of the La bella campagnola alfalfa. Essential product information can be found on the package label.
