"Bartom", the medium early broad bean (Vicia faba), is a variety producing medium large or large seeds (1000 fresh seeds weigh 3,7 kg). The plants of this cultivar develop long, straight pods that are filled with impressive, white-green seeds. "Bartom" broad bean deserves your attention as the first Polish broad bean variety, but it also stands out through excellent productivity. It may be consumed directly or preserved. Dried seeds take on pale brown colour.

The beginning of spring marks the best time for sowing broad bean seeds. The fruit-bearing plants may grow 90 - 100 cm tall. Broad bean is an annual plant that is easy in cultivation. Its seeds stand out with high nutritional value. They contain vegetable proteins, healthy carbohydrates, vitamins (especially those of the B group, including nicotinic acid, as well as smaller amounts of provitamin A and vitamin C) and minerals - calcium, phosphorus and iron. Broad bean is a valuable component of a diet thanks to its wholesome effects, too. It reacts with the bile acids in the large intestine and therefore decreases the LDL-cholesterol level in blood. Large amount of the folic acid prevents from foetus maldevelopment and support healing anaemia.
