Cucumber "Zefir F1" (Cucumis sativus) belongs to the earliest field cucumber varieties. Vigour and high productivity count to its biggest advantages. The first harvest is particularly abundant. This cultivar is also resistant to common cucumber diseases, downy mildew among others. The fruit it produces are regularly shaped and do not develop a neck. Their skin takes on vividly green colour, is shiny with only few paler stripes and small warts. The fruit do not only look good, but they also taste delicious. Pickled "Zefir F1" cucumbers regularly score high in the blind tests of pickles.
Field cucumber may be grown both from direct sow to the field and from seedlings. You may produce seedlings already in April under covers, however direct sow to the ground is possible only in May. This warrants that the soil will be sufficiently warm and the young plants will not be exposed to frost. It is important to plant cucumbers on sunny and warm sites. You should provide them with a fertile soil, rich in nutrients and humus, moist, yet permeable. The first "Zefir F1" cucumbers may be harvested already in July.
