Daffodils, commonly, yet not always correctly called jonquils, herald the coming of spring. Their characteristic blooms in different warm shades of yellow belong to the most often chosen bulbous plants. They help to overcome the winter dullness of the garden and grant the waiting for the most beautiful season of the year a cheerful atmosphere.

Daffodil bulb is usually egg-shaped, covered with thin scales and surrounded by numerous branched bulbs. The leaves are grass-like and usually greyish. Flowers with a characteristic build constitute the main ornament of this plant. The "Apotheose" variety belongs to the double-flowered narcissi. It has three alternate verticils of tepals that look like golden stars thanks to its spiky endings. The centres are filled with reduced, wavy corona parts that mix with smaller petals. Even though the outer tepals maintain the solid, yellow colouring, the middles also show hints of dark orange. This combination bursts with optimism and bring the warm sun to mind. The "Apotheose" narcissi bloom in March and April and grow up to 40 cm tall.

Daffodils do not belong to demanding and picky garden inhabitants and every kind of soil suits them. In order to achieve the best results plant them onto a fertile, slightly acidic or neutral, permeable soil. The site can be either sunny or partially shady. Plant 3-4 plants into one hole. They will grow at the same site for many years.

Daffodils, like many other bulbous perennials, are planted on borders, flower beds and lawns. They prove to be ideal for beginning gardeners who strive to create striking bulb flower arrangements. Jonquils look great both alone and with other plants. They are commonly grown for cut flowers.
