"Orys" dahlia-flowered zinnia (Zinnia elegans fl.pl. dahliaeflora) is an annual plant valued for its extremely ornamental, double, long-blooming flower heads. "Orys" variety forms large inflorescences that take on beautiful orange colour. They develop atop the stems in summer and bloom until first frosts. The plants grow 60 - 100 cm tall. They have erect, branched, thick, stiff and fragile stems that are covered with short hair, and sessile oval leaves covered with coarse hairs. "Orys" zinnia is particularly recommended for cut flowers. Its flowers maintain freshness in vases for up to 2 weeks. It is also suited for cultivation on borders and in containers.

"Orys" zinnia is usually grown from seedlings under covers. For that purpose seeds are sown to boxes in March and April. Young plants are very sensitive to cold weather, so they can be transplanted to the permanent site in 40 x 30 cm spacings at the end of May. Zinnia seeds may also be sown directly to the soil in May, provided the atmospheric conditions are favourable. The plants sown in May will bloom approximately one month later, but more abundantly. Zinnias require sunny and wind-sheltered sites with fertile, humous, permeable and moderately moist soils.

A package contains 1 g of the "Orys" zinnia seeds, as well as the sow-by date and a growing guide.
